The mission of the Monticello Theatre Association is to foster an appreciation of the performing arts. Inherent in this mission is providing performance opportunities and promoting education in music, dance, art and theater. The Monticello Theatre Association has produced dramatic, comedic and musical shows since 1975. The Association has awarded a scholarship each year to a deserving student of the arts. The Monticello Theatre Association, known more casually as the MTA, is a not-for-profit corporation registered with the State of Illinois.
In order to fulfill its mission, the MTA has over the years developed this set of objectives to enrich our local and community:
Two $1,000 Monticello Theater Association Scholarship for theatre arts are awarded to graduating Monticello High School seniors who have been accepted into a two-year or four-year program.
The first scholarship is for a senior who plans to pursue a major in theatre arts or other technically related fields (e.g. set design, costuming, lighting, etc.) If no qualifying high school senior applies, the award may be given to a qualifying full time college student; however, preference will be given to the high school senior.
The second scholarship is awarded to a qualified applicant who has participated in theatre during high school but does not plan to pursue a theatre-related curriculum in college.
